Church for People Like You

Welcome to Spotlight Church in Stratford Ontario. The first thing that we can tell you about us is that we are regular people, just like you. we want you to know that, at Spotlight, you are welcome, you belong, and you fit in: Even if you’ve never felt like you belonged anywhere before. It is our intention that Spotlight Church be a community of believers where everyone can be themselves, and everyone is loved. We believe that there is more to this life than just getting up in the morning and going through the motions. We all have purpose, and God has an amazing plan for every one of us – That means you too! Spotlight church was planted in Stratford Ontario in 2012; we’re a young church (that’s not to say that we’re all young) and we desire to be creative and innovative in the way we do church. We want to make room for people from all walks and stages of life. Families, couples, youth, young adults, empty nesters, retirees, we want to make room for everyone. If you’re looking for a church in Stratford, come check us out.

What We Believe

Spotlight church is part of the Wesleyan denomination, and as such we prescribe to the Wesleyan core values and beliefs.

Our Core Values & Beliefs

Wesleyans believe in one God, who is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and the Savior of all who put their faith in Him alone for eternal life. We believe that those who are made new in Christ are called to be holy in character and conduct, and can only live this way by being filled with the Lord’s Spirit. We believe in the Bible and its sufficiency to establish our faith and conduct. We believe God wills for people everywhere to know Him and be made new in Christ. We believe that the purpose of the Church is to worship God in spirit and in truth, and to reach a lost and fallen world with the gospel of Jesus Christ through its worship, witness, and loving deeds. The following are terms descriptive of who Wesleyans are and why they do what they do. They describe the “soul of the Church”:

Local Church Centered

The denomination exists to help local congregations grow and multiply, be more healthy, and more authentically reflect God’s plan. Local churches are the most fundamental and strategic points of evangelism and discipleship. The challenge of the denomination is to keep finding the best ways to serve, strengthen, and multiply congregations.

Servant Leadership

Wesleyans respect leadership that is placed over them, while realizing that the authority and effectiveness of spiritual leadership is not primarily bestowed, but earned, and is characterized by a loving and willing heart of obedience that serves God and mankind gladly. Wesleyans desire to be leaders in serving.

Unity in Diversity

There is intrinsic value in every person. Biblical unity becomes all the more important and beautiful in the light of the wide-ranging differences in personalities, cultures, races, languages, talents, and perspectives. Finding unity and mutual love in Christ eliminates devaluation and deprivation of life to one another.

Biblical Authority

The Bible is God’s holy Word. It uniquely and infallibly reveals God’s plan for His people and how to live out that plan, individually and corporately. Beliefs, practices, priorities, and our mission are to be anchored in clear biblical teachings.

Christlikeness

Wesleyans respect leadership that is placed over them, while realizing that the authority and effectiveness of spiritual leadership is not primarily bestowed, but earned, and is characterized by a loving and willing heart of obedience that serves God and mankind gladly. Wesleyans desire to be leaders in serving.

Disciple Making

Done effectively, this will produce and promote growth and health in and among the churches.

FULFILLING THE GREAT COMMANDMENT IN THE SPIRIT OF THE GREAT COMMISSION

Jesus said that the greatest thing we can do with our lives is love The Lord our God with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and love our neighbour as ourselves. We call this The Great Commandment. Jesus also said that we are to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit, and teach them to do everything that He told us to do. We call this The Great Commission. And so, our mission, at Spotlight Church, is to fulfill The Great Commission, in the spirit of The Great Commandment.
What that means, is that Spotlight Church, we exist to see lives changed, and for people to discover the plan that God has for them. Jesus said that the greatest commandment is to love the Lord our God with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and to love our neighbours as ourselves. All that we do at Spotlight, we do in the context of loving God, and loving people. Whether it’s in a small home group ministry, our Sunday worship gathering, or at any of our regular social gatherings, you will find that we are intentional about trying to meet people where they’re at, and show them that God loves them, and that He has a plan for them.

Having said that, we have a number of things that we do, to try to connect with people, and connect those people with God.

We have a weekly worship gathering that meets every Sunday morning at 10:30 AM, at the Festival Inn in Stratford. At this gathering, we join with our worship team in singing worship music to God. Each week, our pastor speaks on a chosen topic, and relates these topics to the scriptures of the Bible, and offers us relevant, modern-day applications for the biblical principles.

We have weekly Bible Study Groups that come together to read and discuss God’s Word, to try and better understand God’s plan for our lives, and how we might apply the biblical scriptures to our modern day lives.

We have a video discussion group that meets weekly to watch and discuss a variety of video clips that speak to regular, every day things that you and I are confronted with. This is a casual gathering that talks through life issues and discusses the biblical principles for dealing with life issues, and helps people to understand God’s will for their lives.

We believe strongly in being connected together, and so, we have regular social gatherings for the simple purpose of coming together, and getting to know one another better. We have a monthly movie club that enjoys watching films together and discussing the pros, cons, likes, and dislikes afterward. Each month we have a larger church gathering, like our Silly Chilli night, or Summer Pool Party, or Backyard BBQs! We always have lots of fun, good food, and great company!

As Spotlight Church grows, we will also be growing in the number of ministries that we do.

Currently, Pastor Aaron is looking for those who might be interested in joining him for street ministry. There is great need in our city, and connect with those persons is the beginning of providing for those needs.

We are also looking forward to beginning a drama ministry team that will focus on speaking God’s Word through theatrical presentation.

We are also looking forward to beginning our film ministries group. This team with work on developing video messages and biblical teaching through the visual media.

Kingdom Kids

Then some children were brought to Him so that He might lay His hands on them and pray; and the disciples rebuked them. But Jesus said, Let the children alone, and do not hinder them from coming to Me; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” -Matthew 19:13-14

Jesus recognized the importance of children in a time when they were very much an afterthought. Children are close to God’s heart, and a vital part of our church community. Here at Spotlight, we desire to make the Word of God accessible to our children so that they can grow, and so we can have strong families, united in their faith. Our dedicated children’s ministry volunteers use crafts, teaching from God’s word, puppets, music, play time and more, to engage little hearts and minds with biblical truth.

We have a a wonderful dedicated team of volunteers who care about each child. We believe in family,  and we delight in seeing each child grow into who God made them to be; confident and courageous, with a true understanding of who Christ is and who they are in light of that fact.

We have fun and we learn from a biblical based curriculum so we can all grow together at a comfortable pace, and we create a safe and nurturing environment.  We encourage and welcome parents to volunteer, so always feel free to let us know if you want to be involved!

We love that our kids can be challenged in an environment that promotes learning and development. We’re sure your kids will love it too!
